Week 6

Dear Parents and Students,

We have had a full and busy week, including a number of tests, and the completion of our first major writing assignment. We also finished the week with a birthday party and our monthly assembly.

In the Classroom:

Maths

We completed Topic 3 this week, which has been dedicated to multiplication of whole numbers. We studied the various properties of multiplication, and practised strategies such as breaking apart factors, identifying patterns, and using an array.  Our test took place on Friday, and next week, we will begin our next topic dedicated to division.

Literacy Workshop

We have spent most of this week focussed on our Personal Narratives. We published them on Thursday, and held our first publishing party for the year on Friday. Next week, we will focus on reading again with a story about finding the infamous Titanic.

Science

We had a lot of fun this week, as we investigated rocks and minerals. Whoever would have thought that rocks could be so interesting? This week, we explored how many of these rocks and minerals came to be. Next week, we will investigate how they get broken down again.

Social Studies

We had our first open-book test for the year on Thursday, and the results will help us to see how effective our note-taking skills are, and in what areas we need to build our skills. Next week will be looking at populations and demographics, and we will also begin planning for our first oral presentation for the year.
