Week 25

Dear Parents and Students,

It’s good to see everybody back after the Lunar New Year break. I hope you all enjoyed your holiday. Back in school, we have been very busy, as usual, and we are all excited in anticipation of Literacy Week, coming up next week.

In the Classroom:

Maths

We began Topic 13 this week, which continues our study of decimals, including addition, subtraction, and multiplication of decimals and whole numbers. We will complete Topic 13 next week, with the test to take place on Thursday.

Literacy Workshop

We read a new story from our basal this week. Sing to the Stars is a story about a boy and

his special relationship with music. We continued to develop our skills in making inferences, and we also discussed the writing style of the author. Next week will be full of activities for Literacy Week, and we have spent some of this week preparing for our presentations, which will take place next Thursday.

Science

We are still discussing Science Fair topics in class, and finalising partners and plans for

our preliminary research. In the meantime, we have continued with our exploration of

electricity, and we can now build circuits in series and parallel, complete with switches. We have one more practical assignment to do before we review what we have learned.

Social Studies

We spent some time this week learning what the Southeast is like today, with our attention first focused on the Atlantic States, before then learning about the Gulf Coast States. We will continue our studies with the Southeastern Inland States next week. We also have a special lesson for Literacy Week, in which we will learn about a very clever Native American girl and her father.
