Week 27

Dear Parents and Students,

It was another busy week, punctuated with our Pottery session on Wednesday. Everyone enjoyed releasing our creative sides, and there were some very impressive works of art produced. Photos of the morning can be found via the link at the bottom of this post.

In the Classroom:

Maths

We have been working our way through Topic 14, and learning some very useful formulas. We have also discussed the importance of understanding the formulas we learn, and not simply memorising them. We will complete our studies of area and perimeter next week, with our topic test to take place on Thursday.

Literacy Workshop

We have begun planning and drafting our next writing assignment - Writing Instructions.

Next week, we will be revising, proofreading, and publishing our instructions. To present

our instructions, students can choose to present live in the classroom or to create a

slideshow or short video, which will be shared online and presented before the class. Directions for creating the video have been sent home, along with rubrics for both

the writing and presentation assignments. Written instructions are due next Friday, and the presentations will take place on Tuesday, 19th March. Next week, we will also begin reading Lewis Carroll’s classic tale, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland.

Science

Our experimentation with electricity has come to an end for the time being, and we have been reviewing all we have learned. Next week, we will turn our attention to thermal energy, with another practical assignment set up for Wednesday. We will also be discussing our preliminary research for our Science Fair projects during the week.

Social Studies

Our unit test for the Southeast took place on Thursday, and next week, we will begin our

investigations of the American Midwest. We will start with a focus on the region’s geography.
