Week 31

 Dear Parents and Students,

It was good to see everyone back from break, fully refreshed after a week’s vacation. In the classroom, we have been very productive this week, and we enjoyed a great end to the week with our Easter Egg Hunt. A link to pictures has been included at the end of this post.

In the Classroom:

Maths

We have continued our studies of measurement, focusing this week on the metric system and units of time. We will review how to measure temperature next Monday, and then we will review the entire topic next Tuesday, with the topic test to take place Wednesday. Our next topic deals with the collection of data, and reading and creating graphs.

Literacy Workshop

We spent most of our week in Literacy planning and drafting our latest assignment: Writing an Opinion. We will be publishing and sharing these next week. We have also been reviewing what we know about capitalisation in our grammar classes.

Science

Our studies of energy have continued, with this week being all about light. We have learned how white light refracts into its different wavelengths to create a spectrum, better

known as a rainbow if seen in the sky. We also experimented with different methods of

refracting light, including using prisms, mirrors, tanks of water, and clouds of vapour.

Our Science Fair projects are all taking shape, and we have just over a week to go before we present at the Science Fair.

Social Studies

We are still learning about the American Midwest. This week we were focused on the Great La

kes States, and we took another look at the Plains States. We will begin reviewing

what we have learned about the region next week before sitting a team test next Friday.

Other important information

Next Wednesday, portrait photos for the yearbook will be taken. As Grade 4 also has PE on Wednesday, students might dress for the photos, and then change into PE uniforms afterwards.

Parent/Teacher Conferences will also be held next week, 15th-19th April. I look forward to seeing you all then. These, along with other important dates, are listed below, as always. Students, I will see you all on Monday!
