Week 35

 Dear Parents and Students,

As you know, we began our MAP testing this week, and students have approached each test with a positive attitude. We have balanced our week with some lighter loads in the classroom, but we have remained productive throughout. 

In the Classroom:

Maths

We completed Topic 17 this week, and the topic test took place on Wednesday. On Thursday, we began Topic 18, which is focused on equations and inequalities. This is a shorter topic, and the topic test will take place next Thursday. 

Literacy Workshop

We have almost completed our current grammar unit, with just a few more lessons to take place next week. In our final unit, we will be learning the difference between adverbs and prepositions, and how to use them in a sentence. We have also been enjoying reading one of Roald Dahl’s novels, Danny the Champion of the World. We will continue with the story next week.

  

Science

We have been investigating how plants and animals respond and adapt to their environments. We have learned that physical traits are inherited, as are many behavioural traits. Some behaviours, however, are learned. We spent time discussing how all of these traits, inherited or learned, can help a species survive and reproduce in its natural environment. Next week, we will enjoy another practical investigation as we learn how our muscles and tendons cooperate to move our limbs.

Social Studies

We have been researching our selected topics for our Regions presentations, and everyone is busy collaborating. We will continue to work on our projects next week. Our presentations will take place on Thursday, 30th May.

Other important information

The MAP assessments will continue next week, concluding on Wednesday, although Grade 4’s last test will be on Tuesday. As I’m sure you all know, this Sunday is Mothers’ Day. I hope you are all able to celebrate! Enjoy your weekend, and I’ll see everyone on Monday.
