Week 38

 Dear Parents and Students,

We have had another full week with plenty happening. We have been very busy in the classroom, including our presentations for Social Studies. We also said goodbye to William, who after spending a year with us at HIS, is moving to Germany, where he will start at a new school. Good luck, William, we will all miss you!

In the Classroom:

Maths

We have completed Topic 19, and we had our topic test and performance assessment on Tuesday. We have already begun Topic 20 – our final topic for the year – which is dedicated to probability, and how to represent it as fractions, graphs and tree diagrams. This is a short topic, and we will complete it early next week, with the topic test to take place on Wednesday.

Literacy Workshop

We have completed our last grammar unit, in which we have been learning the difference between adverbs and prepositions, and how to use them in a sentence. We also finished reading Danny the Champion of the World. This story has posed some ethical questions to which we have had some interesting responses. Next week will be dedicated to review and some minor writing assignments.

Science

We extended our study of how the eye works this week by adding an iris and smaller pupil to our working model. We then worked in pairs to observe how the iris and pupil function to affect what we see. Next week, we will review some of what we have learned over the past several weeks, and we will apply what we know to one last practical challenge.

Social Studies

We presented our Regions projects on Thursday. Not only did everyone do a great job in researching and compiling the information for our respective regions, but we have also learned some new skills along the way, which should prove to be very useful in future.

Other important information

As part of a special project, on Friday, 7th June, both Grade 3 classes will be selling snacks and drinks to all elementary students using a pre-order and delivery service. Order forms, including the price of each product, were sent home earlier this week. Thank you for returning them so promptly. Grade 3 students will then prepare and deliver orders next Friday, 7th June.

Our final day of school is fast approaching. As you know, students will be dismissed after lunch on Friday, 14th June. The schedule for buses, taxis, and parent pickup is listed below. Please let the office know if your child will be leaving before the end of the school year, or if you would like to make a special arrangement for pickup on the final day.

I hope everyone enjoys a relaxing weekend, and I’ll see you all on Monday.
